Andrew Deering

Director

Andrew is the Founder and CEO of The Deering Group. A Leader in Operations and People, Andrew has spent more than 20 years in leadership roles, delivering organisational development programs and leading transformational change. 

He has built teams from the ground up that had the capability to deliver programs competently and safely, often in short timeframes and high-risk environments.

Andrew has lead The Deering Group to become Australia’s leading experts in large organisational transformational capability and change programs. An innovative and forward-thinking group of experts, Andrew and his team have delivered programs to organisations and teams across Australia.

Some of the organisations Andrew has worked with include BP, Origin Energy, Shell, Todd Energy, MPC Group, APA Group and ERGT Australia.

Louise Bonser

General Manager - Operations

Louise is a passionate Operational Capability Expert with over 25 years’ experience  building and developing competent and capable workforces.  A leader in Learning and Development, Louise has a track record of excellence in designing complete Training and Competency solutions that create competent, safe and high performing teams.  Louise is also a Working Genius Certified Facilitator.

Over more than 25 years, Louise has developed extensive experience leading site based and corporate teams in Training and Competency and People Development in industries including mining, defence, construction, energy and oil and gas.

Drawing on her expertise in operations, Louise leads the TDG team delivering Training and Competency, Knowledge Management and Coaching and Mentoring services to our clients.

Shane Bonser

Consultant

Shane is a highly experienced Training and Competency Specialist with more than 25 years in various operational and leadership roles. This experience has seen him work in several high-risk environments enabling him to develop and implement training and competency programs, ensuring a safe and competent workforce.

Shane’s extensive experience in the mining industry includes setting up and leading several teams, simplifying and standardising the training processes and improving workforce compliance. This combination of skills gives Shane the leading edge in understanding the training and competency needs to deliver relevant tailored programs to meet organisational requirements.

Justin Wilson

Consultant

Justin is a highly qualified and experienced Learning and Development professional. He has more than two decades of experience across several industry sectors in Australia and New Zealand, including Port Operations, Housing, Correctional Services, Mining, and the Oil and Gas industry.

Justin has been responsible for designing and developing industry-specific learning and development programs and managing competency assurance requirements. He is also proficient in eLearning design and application.

With a strong background in safety, Justin has developed and delivered programs and procedures for high-risk work environments to ensure the safety of people and the integrity of the workplace.

Jeff Muir

Consultant

Jeff is a Technical Training and Competency Assurance specialist with more than 15 years’ experience in Competency Assurance Program implementation, Training/Learning Management Systems and technical training design and development. He has established a diverse skillset which has enabled him to provide consultative services and program management support across a broad range of activities and industry sectors, including Defence, oil & gas, mining, and utilities.

Jeff is practical and results focused and applies a pragmatic approach to problem solving and dealing with challenging situations. He engages with stakeholders with the aim of seeking a solution which is sustainable, and which considers all possible scenarios and consequences. This approach has enabled Jeff to lead and support project teams in achieving successful outcomes.

Ian Munro

Consultant

Ian is a highly qualified and experienced Training and Competency specialist with over 30 years of experience across CSG, Conventional Oil & Gas, and Chemical refining. He has held positions across Operations, Management, and Leadership, with experience across permitting, emergency response, and safe control of work.

Ian was instrumental in the development and deployment of tailored training and competency packages for a major Australian O&G organisation (both onshore and offshore), spanning CSG, Conventional O&G, and Pipelines.

Andy Mahon

Andy has demonstrated expertise in leading both front-line and functional teams across various roles, including operations, maintenance, supervision, and management.

Throughout his career, Andy has exemplified leadership and coaching, consistently promoting safe and reliable operational practices. His commitment to effective leadership and safety has significantly contributed to successful project outcomes and operational excellence.

Trent is an accomplished training and development specialist with more than 15 years of experience across the mining, construction, and transport industries and energy sectors.

Throughout his career, he has trained and certified personnel in leadership programs, nationally recognised competencies, and site-specific competencies. His approach consistently delivers high participant satisfaction, measurable uplift in workforce capability, and improved safety outcomes.

Trent has extensive experience leading training teams that support large numbers of employees and contractors. He has implemented training management systems to streamline compliance and reporting. He has also spearheaded the development of innovative on-site training facilities that strengthened practical, hands-on learning.

Leveraging strong skills, extensive knowledge, and hands-on expertise, he has a proven record of improving training participation and achieving cost reductions through efficient, high-impact delivery models.

Shane Lumley

Consultant

Shane is a highly qualified and experienced Oil and Gas Specialist.  A tertiary qualified Industrial Processing Analyst, Shane has more than 20 years’ experience in a variety of Oil and Gas Operations, analysing safety-critical processes and developing efficient implementation strategies nationally.

Shane’s extensive experience includes PTW (Permit to Work) project implementation, document design and writing, designing and delivering competency assurance programs, structuring competency frameworks, and commissioning and start-up support within the LNG industry.

Trevor Grose

Consultant

Trevor is a highly skilled Learning and Development specialist with over 30 years of experience in the Aviation industry, both civil and military, which included aircraft maintenance, Training Development, Leadership and Project Management.

Trevor has over 20 years of experience in Adult and Vocational Education and Learning and Development which encompassed leading teams in the development and delivery of complex training systems for the operation and maintenance of sophisticated aircraft as well as project management of the development and delivery of a state-of-the-art simulator for training aircraft maintainers.

Trevor holds tertiary degrees in Adult and Vocational Education and Learning and Development which, coupled with extensive experience, has equipped Trevor with highly developed skills in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training and learning experiences for adults in vocational settings.

Paul Halma

Paul is a highly experienced Oil and Gas professional who has successfully demonstrated leadership, innovation, capability and resilience during his 30-year career in a dynamic, challenging and evolving sector.

Paul has led front line and functional support teams within Refining, Power, LNG, and CSG across a variety of roles, including maintenance, operations, commissioning, shutdowns and compliance.  A leader in frontline and corporate functions across multiple organisations, Paul has industry experience at both a technician and manager level, including compliance management, Quality Assuranrance, Information Management, maintenance and operations.

Elissa Castelli

Elissa has significant experience as an Organisational Development and Change Management specialist. A Certified Coach (IECL) with over 20 years in organisational and leadership development, change management, generalist human resources and business process improvement, she has worked across several industries, including mining, utilities, professional services, health, and education.

A Certified Coach (IECL), Elissa has supported leaders in understanding and improving their impact on managing teams and driving organisational culture.

Elissa’s Project Management experience gives her the expertise in developing HR strategies to meet current and emerging business challenges. She is also interested in reviewing and designing effective organisational structures in HR and other support services.

His career has covered the full lifecycle of major project opportunities, including concept select, project design and construction, commissioning and handover, facility operations and expansion projects, and decommissioning.
